Company Name: ELSA
Description: Beginning its business venture in Aachen, Germany in 1980, ELSA slowly made a name for itself as a reliable manufacturer of computer peripherals and Internet access solutions for a wide range of computer gaming equipments and workstation machines. Put up by Andreas Steinkopf and Dr.
Klaus Langner, the driving idea was to improve the state of the electronic industry in Germany.
ELSA actually stood for EL-electronik, S-system, and A-Aachen with obvious reference to the type of industry it was in and its specific geographic location in Germany.
After attaining considerable success in the computer industry, the company underwent a merger in 1986 with the Beisch Elektronik which was also based in Germany and founded by Theo Beisch. With the finalization of the merger process, the company went into the production and marketing of computer graphic cards.
This merger also allowed ELSA to expand its product portfolio to cover the area of computer graphics. The company also gained substantial share of the computer graphics and data communication markets.
By 2003, the company modified its corporate name and adapted ELSA Technology Inc. This corporate makeup was done to support of new product introductions that supplemented the company’s product line.
ELSA gained exclusive rights to the ATI FireGL and ATI FireMV professional level graphics products which had immense popularity in the Asian computer graphics market.
The company was also credited with the distribution of other computer system support products ranging from software to hardware solutions. It has successfully ventured into the field of computer video interfacing, multimedia tools and utilities, graphic accelerator boards, networking devices, and display monitors.
ELSA gained prominence in the graphics card market for its release of the ATI and NVIDIA product series. The NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 is one of the more popular from the NVIDIA series. This professional graphics card is characterized by its 256Mb DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM memory module capability.
From the ATI product series, the ATI FireGL Z1 is known in the market as a professional level video card that incorporates 128Mb DDR RAM and features four parallel engines. It also had inherent support for the DirectX 9.0 technology of Microsoft. This was also one of the few graphic cards in the market at that time with dual DVI-I connector support.
Aside from the video cards, the company also made substantial impact in the market via the release of the ELSA MicroLink ISDN 4U which is a port hub that is designed for deployment in a residential or small business environment. It supports 128kbps of data transfer rate including continuous ISDN connection.
ELSA’s pursuit for technical excellence bear fruit when its FALCOX Series of graphics cards received in 2003 the Consumer’s Best Choice in the Graphics Accelerator Category at the NOVA Channel Awards. ELSA also received the Brand of the Year in Graphic Card Category for 2007.
The company maintains several subsidiaries in China (Shenzhen and Beijing), Korea, Europe, some parts of Asia, and the United States.
