Description: Dopod is a company based in Taiwan. Their primary focus is on manufacturing Windows Mobile Smartphones. The company also has other branches in South East Asia and Australasia. HTC, Taiwanese Windows Mobile device manufacturer, owns Dopod which was established in 2004. The company HTC owns 50% shares of the company. HTC branches are located in Taiwan, Wuhan and China.

Dopod is focused on manufacturing PDA mobile phones. The most recent models that were launched by the company are P100, U1000, 900 D810, 818 Pro, 595, 577W and S300. The company is recognized as the top manufacturer of camera phones, 3G handsets and other related products.

The Dopod International and HTC (High Tech Computer Corp.) has signed an acquisition contract in May 2007. This is to buy 9 Dopod subsidiaries’ assets. The acquisition consisted of Dopod India, Dopod Taiwan, Dopod Thailand, Dopod Indonesia, Dopod Hongkong, Dopod Philippines, Dopod Malwaysia and Dopod Singapore.

The acquisition agreement was approved by HTC’s Board of Directors which is still to be approved by its shareholders. By the end of the second half of 2007, the agreement is said to estimate Dopod International subsidiaries’ assets at the total of the net worth of Dopod International.

HTC will be able to strengthen its position in the Asian market through the integrated service, marketing and sales abilities of the two companies Dopod and HTC. Then HTC will be able to offer the Asian countries with a comprehensive line of mobile devices and services. For HTC to maximize the use of Dopod’s resources and get the best out of the company, Dopod must follow the standards of HTC.

Due to the expertise of Dopod in the market, it is certain that HTC will be able to benefit from it, especially since HTC’s name is more popular in the market. Since the acquisition of Dopod, HTC plans to combine the products of the two companies and use only one brand. In the future, all of the products manufactured by HTC will be bearing the global brand name HTC.

However, the products that have already been launched by Dopod will still use the Dopod brand name. For the Dopod clients to receive support, HTC will be providing it to the clients who have bought products even before the acquisition of Dopod.
