Company Name: Dayna CommunicationsDescription: Making its business operation base in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Dayna Communications Inc. was established in 1984 as a privately held company. The company exhibits excellent proficiency in the field of communications and network connectivity involving wireless as well as wired LAN (Local Area Networking) environments.
Their product portfolio consisted mostly of communications hardware like Ethernet cards, modems, and the similar devices including their supporting software drivers and applications.
On May 10, 1995 the company implemented a restructuring plan which also covered the funding for the creation of two new subsidiaries. Despite the restructuring, the company will remain focused in the area of product development, marketing, and sales for LAN devices catering to the microcomputer industry.
The new subsidiaries are intended to concentrate on the development of products and technologies which fall under the category of remote access markets for deployment in wide area wireless communications environments. As part of the restructuring process, some of the engineering and marketing personnel of Dayna will transfer to the new companies with their corresponding positions in the parent company being dissolved.
Since its inception in 1984 the company has consistently developed networking products for Apple computers. This endeavor made Dayna the second biggest independent manufacturer of Ethernet products including Ethernet bridges for the LocalTalk printers of Macintosh computer systems.
At the helm of the company’s management team was Mark Seethaler (Chief Executive Officer) who assumed the position from Brad Romney who served in the say position from 1986 to 1992. From its inception up until about November 1997 when the company was bought out by Intel Corporation which resulted in the termination of the Dayna product line in 1999.
The acquisition centered on Intel’s keen interest on the Dayna NetCenter products that consist of plug-and-play routers, hubs, switches catering mostly to the SOHO (Small Office Home Office) environment.
On March 25, 1996 the company announced that its senior management team successfully gained control of the financial interest of Dayna from its venture capital investors. This event allowed the company to remain concentrated in its efforts to provide support for reliable and innovative products for the traditional Macintosh market. This also gives the company the capability of responding quickly to the demands of the dynamic market.
Dayna made one of the most notable impacts in the IT industry with its release of the DaynaFile hardware solution. This device was intended to help Macintosh users in having the capability of reading, writing, and even formatting DOS-based floppy disks that are used in PC-based systems. The setup includes the connection of a cable used in combination with a specialized hardware driver to provide this functionality.
On September 1, 1993 the company introduced to the IT market the SafeDeposit 1.2 which was a backup software solution that functions by reliably and completely implementing an automated backup process. The application is recognized in the market as easy to use and powerful software that allows a user to backup the contents of a hard drive storage to various removable media or onto a network file server machine.
The backup plan execution is constructed by the user upon installation of the software along with additional customization setting options which will be implemented at every instance of the automated backup process.
Intel announced on September 26, 1997 that despite the merger Dayna would continue its present operation in the IT market. This would include selling of products under the Dayna brand including to catering to the solutions needed by the Macintosh market.
According to Jeanne Talbot, Intel’s Press Relations Manager, Intel and Dayna would continue to evaluate the best possibly mix of products to be introduced to the market to maximize potentials. The new product blends made their debut in the market during the first half of 1998.
Prior to the acquisition Dayna’s customer base composed mostly of major universities, SOHO, and some enterprises belonging to the Fortune 100. The company’s products had presence in 28 international markets all over the world and marketed to the end user via a network of distributors.
