Who is Datel?
The video game enhancement product company Datel is based in the United Kingdom. Datel entered the industry in the 1980s under the leadership of its founder Mike Connors who remains as the top management executive to date. The company originally took the name of Datel Electronics.
Datel has been a smashing success
The company’s relative success in the video gaming market allowed it to generate annual sales amounting to more than $150 million. Majority of the marketing for the company’s products are handled by its global network of retail partners and distributors. Datel has made a name for itself as the best selling video game cheat creator in the industry.
Datel Products
The products developed by Datel carry its trade mark of innovations, creativity, and excellence. It also exudes mass appeal and is normally in high demand and is one of the fastest moving commodities in the video gaming market. As a result of its magnificent track record, video gamers are constantly on the look out for new product releases from the company. Its products have also gained the respect of most of its competitors for its ability to dominate majority of the market.
Action Replay
The flagship brand released by Datel to the video gaming market is the Action Replay product. This allowed computer gamers to save the entire contents of their home computer into a floppy disk or compact audio cassette media. It allowed the gamer easy reloading of the saved game settings and status. This product also allowed the copying of games and allowed the players to restart the game at the exact point where it was previously saved.
The Action Replay which has achieved the reputation of being synonymous to video gaming since its introduction in 1983 is widely acknowledged in gaming circles as a multi-featured and robust application. The product was considered as a groundbreaking technology in the area of gaming at the time and was a consistently topped the sales charts in the video game market.
Action Replay Max
The Action Replay MAX was specifically designed to support the PlayStation 2 video game console and represented the first product in the market which featured direct code updating using PS2’s network adaptor. The Action Replay MAX also features a version for the Sony PlayStation/PSone, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube (where it remains as the only true cheat code system dedicated to the gaming console).
As part of Datel’s rich history in the gaming industry, the company manufactured in 1980 the ZX Spectrum, Amstra CPC, and the Commodore 64. These systems featured memory expansion slots, light pens, and silicon disks.
During the 1990s the company undertook a tedious expansion process by acquiring OCP Art Studio’s painting software including the PlusD drive from Miles Gordon Technology. With these purchases, the company introduced to the computer markets the mouse pointing device which was widely unfamiliar and relatively unknown to majority of computer users at the time.
Datel Today
In the 2000s, the company initiated a business arrangement with Interact Accessories. With this venture, the GameShark brand made its entry into the market. The collaboration however was short lived with the closing down of Interact Accessories.
The GameShark brand was purchased by Mad Catz and Datel returned to the marketing of various products under the brand name Action Replay. To date Datel is composed of three divisions, the MAX TV, the Raw Science, and the Code Junkies.
