About ATI Radeon Drivers
ATI Radeon drivers fall into several categories. The ATI Radeon name is used in GPU’s (Graphics Processing Unit), motherboards, home entertainment systems, PC’s and laptops. There are even ATI Radeon GPU’s for MAC computers. The biggest trick is knowing which one you actually need. Even going to the ATI website can be a bit confusing, especially if you’re not sure of your model and serial number.
For most PC and MAC users, the ATI Radeon graphics card drivers are all you’ll need. The drivers themselves are proprietary, and are needed in order to utilize the full potential of the graphics. You’ll also need to download the proper drivers for your operating system.
ATI Radeon Product Drivers
It’s no easy thing if you’re using an older system. Some ATI Radeon products have been discontinued, and the drivers have to be found from another source. Even some of the newer Radeon drivers have trouble with the Windows Vista 64bit operating system.
The ATI Radeon drivers themselves are pretty straight forward. They allow your operating system to communicate with the GPU, and vice versa. Without the proper drivers, you will see a blank display, or even some colored lines across the screen. With the newer graphics cards, it also means that you have to have a display which is VGA or later. Some newer cards only come with a DVI (Digital Video Interface) jack on the back. An HD complaint LCD or better monitor is recommended. (Basically, you can see more colors and textures with a new monitor.)
ATI Radeon Graphics Card Drivers
Newer GPU’s such as the ATI Radeon graphics cards have onboard mini-processors. This means that the card itself renders the pictures you see on the screen without having to draw much from onboard RAM (Random Access Memory) or the main processor for the system. In a nutshell, it’s like a mini-computer just used for graphics. This is one of the most important reasons to have the proper drivers.
So, get the new and proper ATI Radeon drivers, or you won’t be able to do or see much on your display.
